CGA Chair Dr. Mark Vitale Authors Article on Dental Insurance Reform

Insurance may increase access to oral health care but it also can be a source of confusion and frustration for practices and patients, due to issues around plan transparency, non-covered services, benefit assignment, network leasing, nonduplication of benefits, coding and others. Mark A. Vitale, D.M.D., chair of the ADA Council of Governmental Affairs, authored a piece, “Dental insurance confusion and inequity,” in Dental Economics to explain the most frequent issues that dentists and patients may face with insurance companies. Dentists taking an active role in organized dentistry and advocating for insurance reform is key to reducing confusion and inequity. The ADA also provides resources for dentists who have dental insurance questions, including toolkits and best practices to help navigate such as the Third-Party Concierge program.
