CE Requirements

The CE Requirements for re-licensure are 30 hours, 1 of which needs to be related to safe prescribing of opioids. There is no requirement related to the number of hours that must be in person learning vs. online, so all requirements can be met using online CE.

The opioid prescribing requirement applies to all dentists, regardless of specialty or whether you prescribe opioids. Those who attended the Harold Crossly classes or Ryan Hampton’s class at the 2019 ISDA Annual Session have met the opioid requirement.

The Health Program Specialist for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare’s Drug Overdose Prevention Program has an updated course that will satisfy this credit titled: Opioid Prescribing Guidelines and the Use of the Idaho Prescription Drug Monitoring Program

Safe and Responsible Prescribing of Opioid Analgesics
$58 (member price)
2 CERP Credit

This will fulfill Opioid CE requirement for relicensing (verified with the Board of Dentistry). 1 CE related to opioid prescribing in each renewal period is required, regardless whether you prescribe. If you haven’t done it yet this is a great option for license expiring at the end of September.

After this course, you will be able to:
  • Develop a rationale for combining two peripherally acting analgesics (acetaminophen, ibuprofen)
  • Incorporate regulations and guidelines regarding opioid use for managing acute pain
  • Discuss recommendations for safe, responsible use of prescription opioid analgesics
