Idaho Dental Foundation Awards $7,500 in Grants

Five Idaho dental programs can now serve more people in vulnerable populations thanks to grants from the Idaho Dental Foundation (IDF). At the IDF’s board meeting on June 14, the board selected the equal distribution of funds in each district around the state. These grants are part of the IDF’s mission to support ongoing oral health initiatives throughout the state of Idaho.

The $7,500 in funding was distributed to the following:

Boise Rescue Mission, Boise - SWIDS: $1,500

The Boise Rescue Mission Ministries is a nonprofit organization committed to meeting the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of individuals who are experiencing homelessness and addiction in the Boise and Nampa areas. This IDF grant will allow them to provide dental services for homeless individuals preparing to enter the job market.

Genesis Community Clinic, Garden City - SWIDS: $1,500

The Genesis Community Health Clinic provides medical, dental and mental health care to the less fortunate by using volunteer professionals. With the IDF grant, the clinic will be able to purchase new dental tools and supplies that will enhance their ability to treat patients.

Serve for Health, Nampa - WTVDS: $1,500

Serve for Health is a program started by a collaboration of dentists in the Treasure Valley who wanted to give back to their community. Their focus is helping those who have no way to afford dental care. The program performs basic dental needs like fillings, extractions or cleanings—though they sometimes assist with more intensive care. Their grant funding will be used toward lab fees for patients needing dentures.

St. Vincent de Paul, Coeur d’Alene - IPDS: $1,500

St. Vincent de Paul’s project—Dental Smiles—works to provide dental service options for homeless and veterans in the area. This especially includes those with dental infection, dental pain, extraction needs, and even some denture repair. Grant funding from the IDF will go toward a dental care voucher program for veterans.

Your Special Smiles, Twin Falls - SCIDS: $1,500

Your Special Smiles focuses on increasing the quality of life for adults with special needs. The program educates caregivers about providing oral healthcare to people with special needs and performs screenings to assess oral health needs. Your Special Smiles has provided comprehensive dental care for more than 20 adults with special needs who otherwise would have not been able to receive treatment. These grant funds will provide support for a mobile clinic, allowing the program to support adults with special needs.
